TALENT SHOWCASE …!!!
Programming is a freaky stuff. It is awesome fun only when you get the desired result. You can feel so happy in your heart when that happens. You cannot deny the fact that you have to slog for hours to get an output. I know how it feels because I’ve gone through the same phase in my life so many times. You feel worse when no one appreciates your work and they call you a geek!! I just keep telling myself that someday even I will prove to others that I can do wonders. By god’s grace, my friend told me about the IDUG contest.
These people appreciate excellent work or lets say in our terms programming. They conduct competitions in XML, X QUERY and DB2 and they have five tracks involving various skill levels:
1) They have a “video contest” in which you can upload your favorite video. It will then be judged by the community & prizes will be awarded monthly.
2) Then there is a “gadget event” where you need to create a small gadget or a widget. This will also be judged by the community for which prizes will be awarded monthly.
From here on the real competition begins. This is for the people who don’t accept a ‘no’ for an answer. It is for people who overtake others and never turn back.
3) This is an “X QUERY” challenge, where you have to answer series of questions by developing queries. The correct answers and queries will be selected to enter a larger prize contest. And believe me, they do have large prize collection. So any of you can participate.
4) There is a “port an application” competition where you have to port an existing XML, X QUERY or DB2.
5) Last but not the least, this one seems to be a bit tough and it is called “develop an application” where you need to develop a brand new application using XML or X QUERY.
Well, This is a great opportunity for all those talented souls out there. I want to end it with a hearty note, “Don’t let people call you geek.” They call us that way because they are not able to take the fact that their bird brain is smaller than ours”… see you in the IDUG contest
